The deadline for the president to sign the amendment to the Pharmaceutical Law regarding the morning-after pill is Friday. Bankman-Fried himself was sentenced to 25 years in prison for stealing $8 billion from customers of the collapsed FTX cryptocurrency exchange. In turn, Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar dismissed five judges from the delegation, including the head of the neo-KRS, Dagmara Pawełczyk-Woicka. Here are six things to know on March 29.

1. Arrests in connection with the Justice Fund case

The court imposed arrest on three people in connection with the activities of the Justice Fund, including priest Michał O., president of the Profeto Foundation. His defense attorney announced that he would appeal against this decision. The content of the allegations in the priest's case concerns, among others, abuse of powers, certifying untruths, and causing property damage.

– In its justification, the court indicated that there were three reasons for applying the measure: the fear of procedural fraud, the fear of escape and the severe punishment that would be imposed on the suspects – said Grzegorz Krysztofiuk, vice-president of the District Court for Warsaw-Mokotów.

2. Waiting for the president's move regarding the morning-after pill

The amendment to the Pharmaceutical Law, providing for the availability of the morning-after pill without a prescription for people over 15 years of age, was adopted by the Senate without amendments on March 6. It is waiting for the president's signature. Andrzej Duda has until Friday to make a decision on this matter.

– I want to trust that the president is considering making a sensible decision until the last minute – said Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy, in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24.

3. Five judges dismissed, including the head of the neo-National Council of the Judiciary

Five judges performing duties at the Court of Appeal in Warsaw, including the head of the neo-KRS, Dagmara Pawełczyk-Woicka, were dismissed from their delegations on Thursday by the Minister of Justice, Adam Bodnar, the ministry said in a statement.

“The reason for the dismissal of the delegation of judges: Piotr Maksymowicz, Agnieszka Stachniak-Rogalska, Jolanta Stasińska, Dagmara Pawełczyk-Woicka and Adam Jaworski is the lack of appropriate experience and judicial experience allowing them to adjudicate in the appellate court,” the ministry said.

5. The king of cryptocurrencies is sentenced

Bankman-Fried himself was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Thursday for stealing $8 billion from customers of the collapsed FTX cryptocurrency exchange. A jury found Bankman-Fried, 32, guilty on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy stemming from the 2022 collapse of FTX, which prosecutors called one of the largest financial frauds in U.S. history.

Federal prosecutors had sought a sentence of 40 to 50 years in prison. Bankman-Fried's defense attorney, Marc Mukasey, argued that a sentence of less than five years would be appropriate. The lawyer argued that FTX customers could get their money back and that Bankman-Fried's actions were not intended to steal.

6. Hundreds of thousands of euros for European politicians from Russia

The Voice of Europe news portal was intended to serve as a tool for secretly financing candidates in the European elections who are favorable to Moscow, writes the portal of the German weekly “Spiegel”, citing the findings of the Czech authorities. “The amount is said to be several hundred thousand euros,” it added.

There is also a Polish thread in the case described by “Spiegel”. In March 2023, a Polish citizen took over all shares in the company behind Voice of Europe. He left his address in Warsaw with a notary. There is a security company at the address that deals with the protection of people and buildings, we read.
