Spain was hit by violent storms. On Wednesday, up to 200 liters of water per square meter fell in places in the Valencia region. It was already dangerous in some places on Tuesday, and broken trees and local flooding forced local authorities to close public places.
As reported by the Spanish meteorological service AEMET on Thursday morning, on the night from Wednesday to Thursday in several municipalities located on the Mediterranean Sea, from 150 to 200 liters of rain fell per square meter, of which about 80-90 l/sq m. in less than an hour.
Inconvenience to residents
In the autonomous region of Valencia as a result storms There was a flood – houses and underground passages were flooded. In places, rainwater flowing down damaged sewage networks.
In several municipalities, sports centers and public parks were closed due to the risk of falling trees, and classes at schools were canceled. Locally, suburban trains were suspended and passengers were transported by replacement buses.
Storms also caused damage in Valencia on Tuesday. In the Burriana commune, strong winds damaged many buildings, including the town hall and the community center, and toppled trees in the cemetery, destroying some burial places. Some roads were also closed on Wednesday while cleaning up after the storm continued.
The dangerous aura will return
For Friday, AEMET has issued a second-degree weather alert on a three-level scale for the coast of the Valencia autonomous region. The region will once again be hit by storms with downpours, strong wind gusts and hail.
This weekend, lightning will occur in almost the entire territory of Spain. Meteorological services predict “unstable weather” and rainfall of “very heavy intensity”, but with mild temperatures. The coldest temperature is in Leon – 10 degrees, and the warmest in Seville – 34 degrees.
