A completely drunk 20-year-old went on a night rally through the streets of Sulęcin (Lubusz Voivodeship). He ended the drive by ramming a fence and hitting an industrial vacuum cleaner at a car wash, and then fled the scene on foot, leaving two passengers in the crashed car. Now he faces up to 8 years in prison.
On Saturday, just before 3 a.m., on one of the main streets of Sulęcin, the driver of a BMW lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a property fence, then into an industrial vacuum cleaner of a car wash, and then fled the scene.
There were two passengers in the car, who miraculously did not suffer any injuries.
He had 2.5 per mille of alcohol
The police quickly determined that a 20-year-old man was behind the wheel of the car. – During the activities undertaken, the officers detained a young man. It turned out that he was completely drunk. The test showed that there was over 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his body – explains junior aspirant Klaudia Biernacka from the District Police Headquarters in Sulęcin
The man was taken into police custody. According to the officers, the vehicle he was driving belonged to the mother of one of the passengers. He had no current technical inspections or insurance. – The woman did not know that young people were going for a “ride” in it – explains Biernacka.
He got in right after drinking
The 20-year-old had consumed alcohol moments before the incident. – The losses he caused are estimated in thousands of zlotys. It does not take much imagination to predict how tragic the consequences could have been if there had been another car or pedestrians on the road or sidewalk at the time of the incident. It is also a great luck that neither the driver nor the passengers were injured – emphasizes Biernacka.
After sobering up, the 20-year-old was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and using a car for a short period of time. The police detained his driving license. The man now faces a penalty of up to 8 years in prison.
