A threat was introduced in the Olomouc country in the East of the Czech Republic. The reason is a railway disaster from a month ago, resulting in a leakage of a poisonous substance. The Czech government talks about the largest contamination of this type.

The railway disaster took place on February 28, when in the town of Hustopecze nad Barczwą A train with cisterns wagons, transporting over 1000 tons of benzene. According to preliminary findings, the composition entered the crossover at an excessive speed. A fire broke out, and about 350 tons of poisonous substance got into the groundwater.

By the decision of the Olomouc Voivode Ladislav, the icing of the threat in the Olomouc country, the first crisis management scale, applies from the south on Friday and will last a month. It is to allow faster reclamation of contaminated soils and water, and above all to prevent the water of the Barczwa River.

In the settlement of recreational houses located near the disaster, contamination was found in one of the wells.

Shortly after the announcement of a state of danger, the local Fisheries Association announced that a dangerous level of benzene concentration was found near the retention reservoir in the immediate vicinity of the disaster. Fishermen found the presence of benzene not only at the surface of the water, but also at the bottom of the lake.

As reported on Friday, a representative of the Stanislav Parnicky association, no mass dreaming of fish has been observed so far, but he appealed to accelerate preventive measures.

Between the place of the disaster and the reservoir, the firefighters and the company rented by local authorities build a metal dam reaching seven meters deep into the land. It is to stop the leakage of the poisonous substance to the lake and groundwater.

The Ministry of the Environment wanted the threat to be introduced earlier, but the voivode of Olomoucki refused, demanding from the government a guarantee of covering the costs of surgery. He received her on Thursday evening. The shelter estimated that the damage caused by derailment and fire will be about 1 billion crowns (about PLN 170 million).

Benzene is a carcinogenic, toxic substance used for the production of plastics, dyes, detergents, pesticides, and formerly used as a solvent and a component of engine fuels.
