Heavy rainfall and flooding hit the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. They caused the water level in the rivers to rise dramatically. How dangerous the weather is can be seen in the video from the city of Santa Tereza.
Heavy rains and storms they have been hitting the southern regions of Brazil since Monday. This is the biggest flood in this state in 18 years – write Brazilian media. Brazilian civil defense reported that the disaster affected 104 municipalities. Many houses and bridges were destroyed or damaged. Flood waters uprooted trees. 10 people were killed and over 20 are missing.
Flood waters carried away the bridge
The mayor of Santa Tereza, Gisele Caumo, recorded a video on Tuesday morning in which she warned residents about the dangerous weather. The video shows the bridge behind the woman suddenly being washed away by floodwaters.
“I appeal for caution,” Caumo said shortly before the structure collapsed.
