The Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Tomaszów Mazowiecki (Łódź Voivodeship) detected coliform bacteria and enterococci in water supplied to a local hospital. – Currently, the facility uses water supplied from a collective water supply – says Iwona Sarwa, District Sanitary Inspector, in an interview with tvn24.pl.

The bacteria were detected in water samples taken on Monday, November 12. – We carry out similar inspections at least twice a year – says Iwona Sarwa, head of the Tomaszów Sanitary and Epidemiological Station. The results showed that drinking water from the individual water intake of the Tomaszów Health Center may be dangerous.

– The water quality does not meet applicable microbiological requirements, we found the presence of coliform bacteria and enterococci. Consuming it without boiling it could result in infection – informs Sarwa.

The water supply network in the Tomaszów hospital was disconnected from the water treatment plant. – Currently, the hospital draws water from the collective water supply. It does not pose any threat to patients and can be consumed – assures the head of the Tomaszów Sanitary and Epidemiological Station.

There will be re-examinations

The tvn24.pl interlocutor emphasizes that changing the source of water supply did not require any logistical activities from the representatives of the Tomaszewski Health Center. – The facility has the ability to change the source by closing one valve and opening another. Actions were taken immediately to ensure that high-quality water flowed to the facility as quickly as possible, he emphasizes.

Water tests from the hospital’s intake are to be repeated on Monday.

Sanitary and Epidemiological Station instructions

The District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Tomaszów Mazowiecki published a message informing about the finding of harmful bacteria in the water that supplied the hospital. We read in it that the contaminated water could be drunk, but only after boiling.

“The water should be boiled for a minimum of two minutes and then left to cool without rapid cooling,” we read in the message.
