An almost 2.5-meter alligator swam in a backyard pool in Brevard County, Florida (USA). County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Santiago was involved in the capture of the uninvited guest. Early last week, a woman from Viera, near Melbourne, more than 100 kilometers southeast of Orlando, Florida, alerted authorities about an alligator she spotted swimming in her pool near her home. In addition to a person trained in catching these animals, Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Santiago went to the scene.

A photo posted on the county sheriff’s office’s Facebook page on Tuesday showed Santiago wide-eyed and mouth parted holding a rope tied to the reptile as wildlife hunter Scott Swartley went about his business at the time.
“There’s never a dull moment working as a deputy sheriff for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office! Just ask Deputy Robert Santiago. I’d like to know what exactly he was thinking, but I’m pretty sure it was, ‘I didn’t sign up for this!'” he wrote tongue-in-cheek County Sheriff Wayne Ivey under the posted photo. “Well done Deputy Santiago and our partner Scott Swartley!” – added.
By Monday, the photo had garnered more than 900 comments, with people competing to come up with phrases that might have come to mind for a sheriff’s deputy in the moment captured.
The reptile was safely removed from the pool, local media reported.
