Saturday is the 10th day of the new reservation system and entrance fees to Venice. According to the rules introduced, on designated days it is necessary to register a visit to the historical center and pay a fee of five euros in the case of stay without accommodation.

By introducing these new rules, which is an unprecedented step in the world, the city authorities want to limit the inflow of the so-called one-day tourists who do not stay overnight and improve tourist traffic management. This experiment will run on select days until July 14.

As the mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, emphasized on the next day of this pilot program, “the purpose of introducing an entrance fee is to make the city a better place to live for residents, workers, students and tourists.”

During two long weekends starting from April 25, when the new regulations came into force, a massive influx of tourists was recorded. Several thousand people a day paid 5 euros to enter the city on the Grand Canal. Those who stay there overnight are exempt from this fee; they pay city tax for their hotel stay.

The city authorities announced that on Friday, over 18,500 people paid to enter the historic center. 56,000 people stayed in hotels and other accommodation facilities. people.
