The bicycle path along Andersa will cost almost PLN 32 million. Road engineers have just concluded the tender for the construction of over a kilometer of section between Nowolipki and the GdaĆski Railway Station.
The tender had a “design and build” formula. The work will be performed by the Warsaw company Wegarten, which offered the best price – PLN 31.8 million. “This offer is lower than our estimated cost estimate and therefore very good news,” informed the Municipal Roads Authority. Documentation and construction will take 20 months. The work will take place in 2024-2025.
Over a kilometer of new route
The path will be built on the section from the GdaĆski Railway Station area to the intersection with Nowolipki Street. The asphalt two-way bicycle route will be 1.2 kilometers long.
It will connect with the bicycle path on the viaduct over the railway tracks, bicycle lanes on Dawidowskiego Street, bicycle lanes on Bonifraterska and MiÄdzyparkowa streets, and bicycle paths on Anielewicza, ĆwiÄtojerska and Nowolipki streets.
It will also be necessary to rebuild all intersections with outdated traffic lights. “This affects the total investment cost, but on the other hand it will allow the installation of modern devices that will then serve for many years,” they explain.
The trees must stay
The route will be partially separated from the road. The Municipal Roads Authority emphasizes that its course has been planned in detail so as to interfere with the greenery as little as possible and not to worsen the living conditions of the large trees in MuranĂłw. Where possible, the so-called tiling, i.e. removal of unnecessary concrete or slab surfaces. Their place will be taken by greenery.
Initially, such an area was selected, among others: at the intersection with Muranowska Street, which will undergo reconstruction along its entire length. “The Wegarten company will also have the task of carrying out such tiling on ĆwiÄtojerska Street, where the biologically active area will be increased along the street line of trees growing on the border with the KrasiĆski Garden,” road engineers specify.
The tender also includes two smaller “add-ons”. The existing bicycle routes on Bonifraterska Street, parallel to Andersa, on the MiÄdzyparkowa-SapieĆŒyĆska section, will be extended. There are also plans to build a short section of a bicycle path financed from the civic budget. It will be built on the eastern side of Andersa Street, from the intersection with ĆwiÄtojerska Street to the junction with DĆuga Street, at the entrance to the metro station.
What about the missing piece?
The path along Andersa will not extend to Bankowy Square. But, as ZDM points out, the missing fragment is already being designed. Similarly to the concept of continuation to the north – along Mickiewicza Street and Wilsona Square.
“In total, it is as much as three kilometers of inter-district route leading straight to ĆrĂłdmieĆcie” – say road engineers. And all these are elements bicycle “backbone” of the city center.
After completing all stages, the continuous bicycle corridor running through Mickiewicza-Andersa-MarszaĆkowska-WaryĆskiego streets will be nearly eight kilometers long.
