A 31-year-old man was detained at Chopin Airport while checking in passengers flying to Tirana. It turned out that he was wanted on a European Arrest Warrant by the Italian authorities for drug offenses. Additionally, he had been staying in Poland illegally for over three months.

The man was detained on Sunday during border checks for passengers flying to Tirana.

According to the spokeswoman of the Commander of the Nadwiślański Border Guard Unit, Captain Dagmara Bielec, during the inspection it turned out that the 31-year-old Albanian was wanted for arrest and surrender or extradition on the basis of the European Arrest Warrant issued by the Italian authorities. The reason was drug crimes.

At the same time, after checking the stamps in the passport, it turned out that the man had exceeded his legal stay in the territory of the country Schengen zone by 102 days. Administrative proceedings were initiated against him to oblige him to return.

– On Monday, the foreigner, under the supervision of border guard officers, will be transported to the prosecutor’s office, where further actions will be taken against him in the case, Bielec said.
