Not only the services appeared on the S8 route, which was impassable after the night's downpour. Activists from the Last Generation also arrived at the scene.
After a night of heavy rain, drivers are unable to use the S8 route in Warsaw. “The effects of the climate crisis are destroying our cities. They have proven to be more radical than any actions of the Last Generation,” activists wrote sarcastically on social media.
Five people from the Last Generation stood on Tuesday morning on the S8 route, which was flooded by a storm and has been closed to traffic in both directions for many hours.
“We demand that the government abandon the crazy plan to expand the network of expressways and motorways in favor of expanding public transport,” they added.
Downpour in Warsaw
On the night from Monday to Tuesday in Warsaw there was heavy rainfallwhich caused flooding. As reported by the Warsaw Police Headquarters in the morning, many streets were flooded. In turn, Warsaw Public Transport warned of disruptions in the operation of public transport vehicles.
As a result of heavy rainfall, the S8 route is completely impassable. Many basements and underground garages were flooded. The capital's firefighters received about 1,000 calls.
A briefing was held in Warsaw on Tuesday about the situation in the city after hours of heavy rain. It was attended by, among others: the mayor of the capital, Rafał Trzaskowski, and representatives of the police and fire brigade.
