More than 2,100 piglets died after a pigsty fire that occurred on the night from Monday to Tuesday in Żarnowica Duża near Piotrków Trybunalski. – A fire was probably started there – says Brig. Tomasz Wojtakowski from the Piotrków fire brigade.
The first report of the fire was received by firefighters at 9:44 p.m. – Flames appeared in a large pigsty, measuring over four thousand square meters. The fire involved part of the building where piglets were kept, said Brig. Wojtakowski. When the first teams of firefighters arrived on site, the fire was already established and consuming the interior of the building.
A total of 10 fire brigades participated in the fire extinguishing operation. – The actions lasted many hours. The last firefighters returned to the base after 3 a.m., said Tomasz Wojtakowski.

Big losses
The owner of the pigsty told firefighters that 2,100 animals lost their lives in the fire.
– The scale of the incident would have been even worse were it not for the fact that the building zones are separated by spaces intended to prevent the fire from spreading. In this case, they worked, concluded Brig. Wojtakowski.
