Olesiak's victory is a bit of a surprise, because in the first round the incumbent mayor had a better result, with 39.63 percent of votes cast. votes. Meanwhile, for Olesiak – 32.85 percent. Exactly 719 votes separated both candidates before the political overtime.

Now each candidate has gained additional voters, but Olesiak's voter flow is much greater. – Emotions reached their peak at times – admits Tomasz Olesiak.

Ultimately, he overtook the mayor by 25 votes. A total of 4,863 votes were cast for him, which gave him 50.13 percent. support. 4,883 people voted for Sielicki, which translates into 49.87 percent. support.

– It was to be expected that there would be fierce competition until the very end. Every vote was worth its weight in gold, says Olesiak.

In his opinion, the key to victory was commitment until the end of the campaign. – This last week was not favorable to us in terms of weather. Luck? Well, probably a bit of luck too, but I think there is also a lot of trust among people – says Tomasz Olesiak.

What are his plans for Świebodzin? – People want to have the mayor close to them, they want to talk to him, they want their voice to be heard. I intend to hold this office in this way, as I said in the campaign – to be close to the people and take into account what they have to say, and there will come time for specifics – he replies.

90 kilometers away there were similar emotions. In Brody (Lubusz Voivodeship), the mayoral elections were to be decided in one round, because only two candidates decided to run. Beata Kowalczuk from KWW Above Divisions and For Common Good and Roman Janczewski from KWW Say Yes to Change in the Brody Commune ran for the position of mayor of Brody. But unexpectedly it was a draw. According to the official results of the National Electoral Commission, the same number of votes were cast for both candidates – 631 each.

In this situation, a second round took place. And this time there was a solution.

The draw from the first round mobilized the residents – a total of 134 more votes were cast. 34 votes decided that Beata Kowalczuk would rule the commune. He already has experience in this, because he has been mayor since October.
