The eastern part of Croatia was hit by a storm on Thursday with heavy downpours and heavy hail. The weather suddenly deteriorated around 5 p.m.

Apocalyptic scenes

The most difficult situation was in the town of Slavonski Brod and its surroundings, near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. As reported by local media, “apocalyptic scenes” were observed on the streets – cars started floating through the streets as if on rivers, and the sidewalks and lawns were covered with a white sheet made of small hailstones.

The authorities of the city located in Slavonia reported that water flooded 30 basements, and the streets and sidewalks were blocked by trees fallen by strong winds. Flooding of streets and underground passages cut off some parts of the city. Damage removal operations began immediately after the storm.
