Due to the celebration of May 1, Cuba experienced energy shortages. Many parts of the island experienced power outages lasting many hours on Thursday and Friday, according to media reports in the country.
According to the independent online dailies Cibercuba and 14ymedio, the electricity shortages are mainly the result of the large-scale Labor Day celebrations organized by the communist regime in Havana, which required higher electricity consumption. Cibercuba notes that over 200,000 people, mainly students and employees of state-owned enterprises, took part in Wednesday's May 1st celebrations in the center of Havana.
“On Thursday, the electricity supply system was out of order for 20 hours,” the Cuban website reported, noting that electricity shortages occurred again on Friday in many parts of the island.

Energy shortages in Cuba
The media reports that the increasing interruptions in electricity supplies, which were visible in March and April, have an impact on the reduction of food production on the island and the intensification of food and water shortages.
Independent portals report that due to the deepening food crisis in Cuba, food shortages were visible in April even in some five-star hotels.
Economists from the Havana Consulting Group based in Miami, quoted by independent media, claim that the inefficiency of the Cuban energy system is responsible for numerous electricity shortages.
According to the company's report, less than 50 percent of total oil-based and distributed energy generation capacity is currently being used in Cuba.
