Police have launched an investigation into the death of 16-year-old Brianna Ghey. The teenager, found with multiple stab wounds, died in a park in Culcheth, western England. A local police official described it as a “really terrible attack”.

Brianna Ghey, 16, was found with multiple stab wounds on a footpath in Linear Park, Culcheth on Saturday shortly after 3pm and died at the scene.

Cheshire Police Officer Mike Evans described it as a “really terrible attack”.

He said police wanted to speak to a woman and a man in their 20s who were seen in the park.

He also described the details of the appearance of both. He said they had dark curly hair, adding: “The man wore a long dark coat with a hood, and the woman wore a distinctive red or purple and black coat and a long flowing skirt, dress or trousers.”

“We also want to speak to anyone who was in the park between approximately 1.30pm and 4pm and anyone who may have seen Brianna in the hours leading up to her death.”

“We are working hard to find those responsible for Brianna’s death.”

Police also said an autopsy was performed to determine the cause of death. Investigators cordoned off the part of the park where 16-year-old Brianna was found by bystanders. Cheshire Police posted a photo of the deceased girl on social media.

“I would like to reassure the local community that we are working hard to find those responsible for Brianna’s death and that we have additional officers in and around Culcheth who are also involved in the investigation,” Evans said.
