Dino Oil, a company belonging to the Dino Polska retail chain, has filed a new trademark related to the retail sale of fuels. An application in this matter was submitted to the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland. Dino Oil has already opened the first fuel station in Western Pomerania, but it is used only to service the internal fleet. For now, it is not known whether Dino will join other retail chains that have their stations at stores. This group includes, among others, Intermarche, Carrefour, Auchan and E.Leclerc.
As we read on the website of the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland, Dino Oil filed a new trademark on October 24 this year. Information on this matter was published on the office’s website earlier this week. According to the Nice Classification, the mark refers to goods and services related to fuel for motor vehicles, retail sale of fuels, vehicle washing and fast food restaurants.
Moreover, in recent weeks the Dino chain has published a job offer for a fuel specialist. The announcement is still available on the company’s website. As we read in the advertisement, the person employed in this position will be responsible, among others, for: for assistance in projects related to the development of the Dino network in the area of gas stations and supervision over the safe operation of the station. Candidates are expected to have, for example, experience in managing gas stations.
Earlier, in mid-May this year, Dino Oil obtained a license to trade in liquid fuels on the basis of sales intermediation using fuel cards issued by Orlen.
Dino will open gas stations?
Despite the above information, it is not known yet whether Dino will launch a network of gas stations. We asked the company’s press office about this, but we did not receive an answer.
Dino Polska management board member Michał Krauze spoke on this topic at the beginning of November this year. during a teleconference. When asked whether the company plans to enter the gas station market, Krauze replied that the company has opened one gas station in the logistics center and it is used to service its internal fleet. – We opened one in the logistics center to service the internal fleet delivering goods to stores. Of course, to this extent we intend to continue it, he said.
Information on this matter was also included in the report of the Dino Polska Capital Group for the third quarter, which was published at the beginning of this month. “In 2023, Dino Oil began operating its first gas station, which is located within the Dino distribution center in Łobez. The station serves the needs of Dino’s transport network and is available to suppliers of goods to this distribution center,” we read.
The advantage is locations
– Dino’s plans are not a surprise, the company had previously focused on cloning its model and launched subsequent stores on a batch basis. Now he is clearly trying to diversify his business. We recently heard about plans related to e-commerce or the drugstore market, and now about gas stations – Agnieszka Górnicka, president of Inquiry, said recently in an interview with “Rzeczpospolita”. – Dino’s advantage is locations. The places where the company has stores do not seem necessarily attractive to fuel companies. Now it may turn out to be a magnet for the local community. There are not many gas stations in these places, now this may be another advantage, she added.
Industry experts emphasize the advantage of retail chains investing in such an offer, for which gas stations are simply an additional service. – It’s about attracting people to the store to make purchases. This generates margins and is a source of profit for stores. Fuels may have a minimal price markup, but overall it is still profitable for the chains – said one of the analysts in an interview with “Rz”.
Other store chains have their stations. According to the latest available data from the Polish Organization of Petroleum Industry and Trade, at the end of June this year. 173 such facilities operated. The Intermarche network has the largest number, 73 stations. Also on the podium were: Carrefour – 40 stations and Auchan – 28. At the end of the first half of the year, the E.Leclerc chain had slightly fewer facilities – 22.
Dino network at the end of September this year. the chain consisted of 2,340 stores. Dino Polska is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
