A head-on collision and a fatality, as well as allegations against the driver, are the balance of the accident that took place on a local road in Dobrzejowice, near Toruń. The examination showed that the man was under the influence of drugs. If confirmed by laboratory results, he could face up to 12 years in prison.

The 38-year-old Mercedes driver, probably driving too fast, lost control of the car on a bend in the road. His car changed lanes to the left, which led to a head-on collision with a Fiat Panda driving in the opposite direction. The smaller passenger car was driven by a 67-year-old woman who had no chance of avoiding the collision. The Mercedes came round the bend at the last moment, and the local narrow road had no hard shoulder to escape to.

An inspection at the scene showed that the woman tried to brake, but it did not help. The huge force of the impact caused the Fiat Panda to literally bounce off the Mercedes.

Inside, apart from the 67-year-old woman behind the wheel, there was a 31-year-old passenger, a heavily pregnant woman and a 69-year-old man. All women were transported to the hospital, from where after a few hours came the tragic news that the 69-year-old did not survive the accident. The lives of the other women are no longer in danger.

The 38-year-old driver of the car escaped unharmed. The man was questioned, but said little during the interrogation. Only that he doesn’t remember anything from the moment he got into the car until the moment when the tragedy happened. The prosecution has no doubt that he was driving too fast and that he was the culprit of the accident. The rest is a matter of procedural arrangements.

The punishment will depend on the results of the tests

There are many indications that the man was under the influence of drugs, possibly marijuana. This was indicated by the result of a drug test carried out immediately after the accident. Now the prosecutor’s office is waiting for the results of laboratory tests.

The man has since been arrested and charged with manslaughter. This is punishable by up to 8 years in prison. If the laboratory confirms that he was under the influence of drugs, then these consequences will be more serious, because causing a fatal accident under the influence of drugs means a criminal liability of up to 12 years in prison.
