Donald Trump: let Europe pay more to support Ukraine, because it is more important to it than to the USA

“As everyone agrees, Ukrainian survival and strength should be much more important to Europe than to us, but it is also important to us! Move, Europe!” – the Republican presidential candidate called.

EU politicians, including the deputy head of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis who is in Washington, estimate that Europe spends more on aid to Ukraine than the US.

Although Trump's entry did not directly refer to the $60 billion aid package for Ukraine being prepared by Congress was presented by opponents of aid to Kiev as being against the act.

In the new draft aid package for Ukraine, Republicans included a provision that economic aid to Ukraine cannot exceed 50 percent. contribution for this purpose from all donors. Moreover, as a nod to Trump – who proposed this idea – part of it was also converted into a forgivable loan.

Referring to the 50% provision, Vice-President of the European Commission Dombrovskis commented that he was happy about it because he hoped that it would mean an increase in US aid.

According to him, Europe bears most of the burden of aid. Since the beginning of the war, it has allocated almost $100 billion to support Ukraine, and this year alone it will allocate over $15 billion for financial assistance alone.
