– If we are to have a candidate for this position from Poland, I think that Radosław Sikorski is an exceptionally good one – said MEP Ewa Kopacz (PO) in “Fakty po Faktach” about the position of EU commissioner for defense. The head of the European Commission announced her willingness to establish such a position.
Former Polish Prime Minister, currently MEP of the Civic Platform, Ewa Kopacz, spoke in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 about the upcoming elections to the European Parliament and the political situation in the European arena. She herself is a candidate and opens the Greater Poland list of the Civic Coalition.
Ewa Kopacz was asked whether, in her opinion, the current head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski, would be a good candidate for the office of Commissioner for Defense. The president of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, expressed her desire to create such a function on Tuesday.
According to Kopacz, the head of Polish diplomacy would be a “great” candidate. – First of all, he was the defense minister. Secondly, he was the minister of foreign affairs for many years. He is a hard-working person, she said. She mentioned that she had the opportunity to work with him in the European Parliament. – For him, the European Parliament was a place where he became known to others, not only to Polish colleagues, but also to colleagues from other European countries, as very reliable, but also a healthy thinker, without emotions, without excessive pomp, speaking very concretely about important issues. – she explained.
– So if today we are to have a candidate for this position from Poland, I think that Radosław Sikorski is an exceptionally good candidate – she added.

Kopacz: maybe the president will finally sober up a bit
She also commented on PiS's announcement that Jacek Saryusz-Wolski would be Poland's candidate for commissioner recommended by the opposition. As Kopacz said, “you have to measure your intentions.”
As she explained, “the party that currently has the most votes in the European Parliament is the EPP, i.e. the European People's Party.” – The Polish delegation from the Civic Platform and PSL is located there. We should also remember that the EPP has coalition capabilities with other parties, she noted. Meanwhile, the former prime minister continued, for the ECR (European Conservatives and Reformists) group, which includes PiS, the “only” allies on the European stage are far-right politicians.

To the comment that President Andrzej Duda may be pushing for Saryusz-Wolski's candidacy, the TVN24 guest replied that “maybe the president will finally sober up a bit and think to himself: OK, I am the president of all Poles, not just PiS.”
