1. The Great Wall of China is “irreversibly” damaged

In the northern part of Shanxi province, workers used an excavator to make a several-meter-long hole in the Great Wall of China to shorten their commute to work, CNN reports. A 38-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman were detained in connection with the case.

According to CCTV, a broadcaster linked to the Chinese government and cited by foreign media, the services received a report of a breach in the Great Wall of China on August 24. The hole was created near the town of Yangqianhe in the north of Shanxi province. CCTV describes the damage to the wall as “irreversible”. Photos circulating on social media show that the hole is several meters wide.

2. Mark Brzezinski “Person of the Year”

US Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski received the “Person of the Year 2023” award from the Economic Forum in Karpacz. During his speech, he expressed gratitude to Poles for the help they provide to refugees from Ukraine.

The diplomat also emphasized that “democracy and complex market economies depend not only on the free and fair electionsbut also on the clarity of the law and the certainty that the law is above politics.

3. PiS once again announces improvement in the quality of meals in hospitals

One of the elements of the Law and Justice party’s election program is to improve the quality of meals in hospitals. But the current government had already announced more money and standards in this matter – after the inspections NIK and Sanitary and Epidemiological Station.

Meanwhile, the project on the requirements for nutrition in hospitals has been waiting for adoption and entry into force for a year and a half.

4. The Confederation’s complaint dismissed

The Court of Appeal in Warsaw dismissed the Confederation’s complaint, filed after the ruling of the District Court in Warsaw – informed Piotr Rogowski, attorney-at-law of Agora, the publisher of “GW” and Michał Wawer, attorney-at-law of the Confederation.

The case concerned the statements of “Gazeta Wyborcza” about the Confederation’s health care program. On September 1, the District Court in Warsaw dismissed the Confederation’s lawsuit – it found that the article was of a journalistic nature and did not contain untruths.

5. Poles’ favorite holiday destinations. New report

These are among Poles’ favorite holiday destinations Türkiye, Greece and Egypt – according to the report “Foreign holidays of Poles 2023” of the Polish Chamber of Tourism. The peak season for Polish tourist trips – according to the report – falls in July and August.

As stated in the report, this year showed that the tourism market is developing, new organizers are appearing and the offer is expanding. It was assessed that the next season 2023/2024 looks equally, if not more, promising.
