It's quiet on the Masurian lakes for now
Rescuers of the Masurian Volunteer Emergency Service (MOPR) estimate that the first days of the May weekend on the Great Masurian Lakes trail are passing peacefully. – There are many sailboats on the lakes. We intervened 5 times. These were technical actions: boat breakdowns or yachts getting stuck on shallows – said Marek Banaszkiewicz, the MOPR dispatcher in Giżycko.
Despite constant appeals from the emergency services, vacationers sometimes combine relaxation by the water with alcohol. In an eco-marina in Giżycko, a drunk man fell into the water while walking on the pier. He was caught by passers-by, MOPR rescuers reported.
