A small amount of uranium has been found at London Heathrow Airport, police say. The services assured that they were “clarifying all the threads of the case”, but there was no “imminent threat” to the travellers.

Richard Smith, head of London’s counter-terrorism unit, said an “extremely small” amount of uranium was found on December 29 during a routine airport check. – The investigation is still ongoing, but our findings show that it is not related to any immediate threat – he reassured. He assured that the services “explain all the threads of this case”.

Uranium can be used to generate energy, it is a key ingredient in nuclear weapons. Some isotopes emit radiation that can be harmful to humans, and the metal itself is toxic if swallowed or inhaled.
