Greece – fires. A firefighting plane crashed in the city of Platanistos

A Canadair plane fighting fires in Greece crashed near Platanistos on the southern island of Euboea on Tuesday, the fire department said, without giving further details.

The state broadcaster ERT said the accident happened near the village of Platanistos on the island of Euboea in southern Greece, close to Athens, where one of the country’s wildfires is taking place.

Greek media reports that a Canadair plane extinguished fires in a hard-to-reach area.

The condition of the two pilots is unknown.

The fight against the element continues in Greece. There have been an average of 50 new fires a day in the last 12 days. There is no information yet on the death toll from the fires, Reuters reported.

As of Tuesday, Crete has been in effect with a level 5 alert, meaning “extreme fire risk”.

This alert is scheduled for tomorrow in Attica, Boeotia, Phthiotis, Magnesia, Corinthia, Argolis, Achaia, Phocis and the island of Euboea.
