Hydration and shade

As the Government Center for Security warns, the risk of dehydration and overheating of the body increases significantly with increasing temperature. The heat can lead to sunstroke or heatstroke. Its symptoms include fatigue, severe headaches and dizziness, nausea, fever, tinnitus, convulsions, increased body temperature, and rapid breathing and heartbeat.

Heat also affects the human nervous system. High temperature can cause drowsiness, nervousness, as well as affect the level of concentration and work efficiency – it is worth remembering about this when driving. If you notice the above symptoms in yourself or others on hot days, you should call the emergency number 112. If possible, it is worth moving to a cool place, as well as drinking cool, but not icy water.

The heat is especially dangerous for the elderly and children. You also need to take care of animals, because high temperature can also lead to overheating of the body – they should have constant access to cold water.

Hot ABC

On hot days, we should first of all take care of replenishment of fluids – drink plenty of water, preferably still and chilled. It is worth eating easily digestible, nutritious meals that will not burden the tired body with heat. We should definitely avoid alcohol, which promotes dehydration of the body.

To limit the influx of hot air into the rooms, especially on the sunny side, it is worth closing the windows in houses and covering them. To ventilate the apartment, it is best to open the windows at night and in the morning, when the temperature is the lowest.

If possible, we should avoid going outside between 11am and 4pm, when the temperature is at its highest and the sunshine is at its highest. Avoid the sun and limit physical exertion. We should use creams with a UV filter, wear a hat and light and airy clothing.

When you are by the water, remember that you must not enter it immediately after sunbathing. Before we start swimming, we should rinse the body with water and only then slowly immerse ourselves in it.

Note the sun

In addition to high temperatures, Saturday – and partly Sunday – are expected to bring mostly sunny weather. This means that we will be exposed to high doses of ultraviolet (UV) radiation during the day. The UV Index is an international standard for measuring the UV radiation that the sun emits on a given day at a particular location.

According to the forecast for Saturday, taking into account the cloudiness in almost all of Poland, the UV index will be 7 – this is a high value, posing a threat when staying in the sun for a long time. In the belt of mountains and foothills, the sun will burn even stronger, and the UV index value will be 8, which means that the threat will be very high. IN Tatra Mountains even a value of 9 is expected.

If we plan to stay outdoors on Saturday, we must not forget about creams with a filter (at least SPF 15), hats and sunglasses. We should wear light and airy clothes.

How to use sunscreen correctly? First of all, we should apply it to the skin before going out into the sun. Use the right amount of the cosmetic – about six teaspoons per adult body. The effectiveness of protection decreases over time, so it is worth reapplying it regularly, as well as applying the cream when you sweat, after swimming or wiping the skin with a towel.
