High energy prices, heating bills. Szymon Hołownia comments

Gas dramatically decreased, bills went up dramatically, someone is making money from it. It would be good if we knew who – said the head of Poland 2050 Szymon Hołownia at a conference in Warsaw. – Today we want to find out from Mateusz Morawiecki, from those who supervise PGNiG, whether this is not another swindle – he added.

SZYMON HOŁOWNIA WILL BE A GUEST ON WEDNESDAY “DOTS OVER I“. BEGINNING OF THE PROGRAM AT 8 PM

The leader of Poland 2050 spoke about high heating bills at a conference in Warsaw. – I have here a letter sent to me by the president of the Housing Cooperative “Ostrobramska”. He writes to everyone, to the president, to politicians, to deputies. People, do something about it, because it will end in tragedies – he said.

Citing the letter, Hołownia said that the president indicated that in his cooperative the purchase price of one gigajoule was PLN 49, and at the end of December it was PLN 101. – But it was with 5% VAT, so with 23% VAT (which came back from the new year – ed.) the increase will be even greater, it exceeds 100% – he commented. “The national figures are sometimes as high as two hundred and sometimes as high as six hundred percent,” he noted.

“You have to ask yourself today why this is happening. We were promised raises of up to 40 percent. What does it have to do with the fact that today we see 100 percent, 200, 300, and even 600 percent? Does this have to do with energy prices? With the prices of gas used to produce system heat in Polish conditions? – He was asking. – And from where. I will quote you how these gas prices looked over the last year – he added.

Hołownia mentioned that on February 24, 2022, i.e. after the start of Russia full-scale invasion of Ukraine, “one megawatt hour on the European stock exchange in the Netherlands cost (in conversion – ed.) PLN 588”. – The peak of this price was in August last year, when the price reached almost PLN 1,800. Today, in contracts on the same Dutch exchange, with delivery in February and March, one megawatt hour of gas is PLN 253, approximately EUR 55, he said.

– This price is lower than it was before the explosion war in Ukraine. If this price is lower than it was before the war, why do people get a raise of one hundred, two hundred, or even more? This is the question we need to ask our government today, he said.

Hołownia concluded that “it can be said that (the rulers) signed bad contracts, that they are unable to sign them, that they signed them at a bargain price at a time when gas cost an absolute fortune.”

– Today we want to find out from Mateusz Morawieckifrom those who supervise PGNiG, whether this is another swindle, he noted. – I will repeat: gas is cheaper, radically cheaper, and people’s bills are rising. Someone has to make money from it, someone has to take the difference into their pocket. Today we have the right to know who is doing it, why they are doing it and why the spread is the way it is, he said.

Hołownia: the state should do everything to make us produce energy from wind and sun

Hołownia went on to say what steps his group wanted to take in the face of high energy prices. – What can be done about it? Chase the losers. Secondly: tell them to stop lying, to tell them clearly and clearly why we pay more for gas when they pay less for it. We also need to change the system. Temporary solutions are important, lowering VAT on gas to five per cent, but if we want to solve this problem in the long term, systemic solutions are needed – he said.

– Today, the state should do everything so that we produce energy from wind and sun, and not from raw materials that someone sells to us at one price, and another at a different price in a moment – he added. – Gas dramatically decreased, bills went up dramatically, someone is making money on it. It would be good if we knew who,’ he repeated.

At the end of January, the Sejm passed an amendment to the act introducing a mechanism to limit the increase in prices for heat recipients. It provides that the increase in prices for the supply of system heat, including all fees and rates imposed on the recipient, may not be greater than 40%. compared to the prices applicable on September 30, 2022. Energy companies will receive compensation so that the recipient – who is an authorized entity – will not be charged with an excessive increase in heating costs.
