The Court of Appeal in Wrocław upheld the sentence for the accused of murder in one of the hotels in Karpacz (Lower Silesia Province). That means the man will spend 25 years in prison. According to the prosecutor’s office, Paweł M. could not accept that his former partner did not want to continue his relationship with him. Jealousy was the motive for the crime.

On Friday, the Court of Appeal in Wrocław considered an appeal in the case of Paweł M., accused of murdering his former partner in one of the hotels in Karpacz. The court decided to uphold the sentence of 25 years of imprisonment previously imposed by the District Court in Jelenia Góra. The decision is final.

She came to a conference in Karpacz, she was killed

On November 16, 2019, an optical industry conference was held in one of the hotels in Karpacz. – It was attended, among others, by 43-year-old Monika L., as a representative of one of the companies – informed the spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, Tomasz Czułowski.

– On that day, Paweł M., a friend of the woman and her former partner, also came to Karpacz. At some point they found themselves in one room. During the conversation, Paweł M. began to choke the victim with his hands, and then with the cable from the iron, leading to her death. Then he hid the woman’s body on the balcony and left the hotel, Czułowski reported.

After finding the body of Monika L., the police determined the whereabouts of Paweł M., who was detained in a motel in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. – After being brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, Paweł M. heard the charge of murder, to which he confessed and made explanations that indicate the motive of jealousy – said the prosecutor.

– During the investigation, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra conducted a number of evidence, securing recordings from hotel monitoring, interrogating other conference participants as well as the victim’s family and friends, obtained expert opinions, including in the field of forensic medicine – he noted.

The court of first instance sentenced him to 25 years in prison

In February 2020, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra filed an indictment in this case with the court. According to the prosecutor’s office, the man confessed to committing the crime and made a statement.

– On October 28, 2022, the District Court in Jelenia Góra issued a verdict in which it found Paweł M. guilty of committing the alleged crime and sentenced him to 25 years in prison, and also awarded compensation in the amount of PLN 200,000 to the victim’s family – he reported prosecutor.
