Ten individuals have died after two helicopters collided in mid-air throughout a rehearsal for a Royal Malaysian Navy parade.

The incident occurred on the Malaysian navy’s Lumut Base – 100 miles (160km) northwest of the capital Kuala Lumpur – at round 9.30am native time.

The crash concerned an AW139 maritime operations helicopter, with seven crew members, and a navy Fennec, with three crew members.

“All of the victims have been confirmed to have died on the scene and have been despatched to the Lumut Base Military Hospital for the identification course of,” the navy mentioned in a press release.

“[We] will set up a board of inquiry to establish the reason for the incident.”

The helicopters crashed throughout coaching for a flyover for Malaysia’s ninetieth Naval Day celebrations, attributable to be held on Saturday.

Native media reported that the AW139 crashed at a sports activities complicated on the naval base, whereas the Fennec hit a close-by swimming pool.

Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin mentioned efforts have been underway to confirm the identities of the crew
members killed within the crash, all of whom have been under the age of 40.
