At least 10 people died on Tuesday in the west of Malaysiawhen two military helicopters collided in mid-air while preparing for a parade, the country's navy said in a statement.

As Reuters reported, citing local rescue services, “no one died on the ground, and all the victims were helicopter crew members.” There was an accident at the Malaysian Naval Base Lumutlocated in the western part of the state of Perak.

“Two helicopters collided during flight training. Doctors confirmed that all 10 victims on board were dead,” said Suhaimy Mohamad Suhail, senior operational commander of the fire and rescue service.

Footage published in local media shows that the disaster occurred when one of the helicopters flying low in formation clipped the rotor of the otherand then both fell to the ground – the BBC reported.

Videos shared online show several helicopters flying low in formation over the stadium Lumut Navy during a rehearsal for the Navy Open Day in May.

One of the helicopters was seen to make an impact into the rear rotor of another helicoptercausing both to go into a spin and crash.
