The policeman turned around and followed him.

– He had over 2.5 per mille of alcohol. He did not have a driving license. The Opel was technically faulty. Only the damaged rim remained from the front wheel, said the Asst. pcs. Anna Pawłowska from the District Police Headquarters in Mława.

The car was towed and the driver was placed in police custody. In addition to losing his car, he faces up to three years in prison and a heavy fine. The case is being investigated by the Mława Police Headquarters.

“Let's be responsible and reasonable”

The police have an appeal to drivers in connection with the upcoming holidays. “To make this time peaceful and safe, let's be responsible and reasonable. Let's take care of our own and others' safety. Sobriety while driving is an absolute basis,” they emphasized.

They also asked to react if you see a suspicious driver on the road who may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. “Immediately notify the police by calling the emergency number 112,” they added.

When can the police confiscate your car?

On March 14, regulations came into force enabling the confiscation of cars, including: drunk drivers. According to them, every drunk driver who has at least 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his blood will lose his car, regardless of whether he caused a road accident. Car forfeiture is also to be applied when the driver causes an accident with a blood alcohol content above 100% or in a situation of recidivism.

According to the applicable regulations, the forfeiture of the vehicle is obligatory, among others: in the event that the perpetrator of a catastrophe or accident resulting in death or serious bodily injury was intoxicated and the alcohol content in his body was higher than 1 per mille.

The court may refrain from ordering the forfeiture of the vehicle only in cases justified by special circumstances
