It cost parents over PLN 800 for their 10-year-old son to play. According to the police, fraudsters – through a popular application that is used, among others, for communication between players – they proposed various types of game add-ons. The child received a QR code, and after scanning it, the subscriber’s account was charged. The officers appeal for caution and supervision of children.
In one day alone, police officers from Mława received two similar notifications. “In both cases, the fraudsters contacted 10-year-old boys who used a popular application used, among other things, for communication between players. The fraudsters offered various types of game add-ons,” says the Asst. pcs. Anna Pawłowska from the police in Mlawa. He adds that the hacker sent the child a QR code to scan.
The child scanned the code, the parents paid
After scanning, Pawłowska reports, the subscriber’s account – in this case the parent’s – was charged with fees charged by the operator. According to the police, the parents paid over PLN 800 “for purchased applications and games that never reached the user.” The deceived adults notified the police.
Now the police are calling for caution and reminding: “Children’s use of communication platforms and computer games without strict adult supervision may carry many risks.”
