Orlen. When will we learn the name of Orlen’s president? Who will replace Daniel Obajtek? We explain

Daniel Obajtek he has been the president of Orlen since February 2018. On Monday, after six years, he resigned from this position. On Thursday, Orlen’s supervisory board decided to dismiss him from the management board, effective February 5 this year. This happened after Obajtek placed himself at the disposal of the supervisory board.

Today, there will be further changes in the management of the Płock concern.

The extraordinary general meeting of Orlen was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., and its agenda included, among others: adopting resolutions on changes in the composition of the company’s supervisory board.

The new supervisory board will appoint a new president. However, before this happens, as a first step, the new supervisory board should adopt a resolution on the appointment of a person to act as president of the management board until a new president is appointed. Then, in the following days, we can expect the initiation of qualification proceedings for members of the management board, including the president of the management board of Orlen.

“The appointment of a member of the management board takes place after a qualification procedure, the purpose of which is to check and assess the qualifications of the candidates and to select the best candidate for a member of the management board,” we read in the company’s statute.

“When initiating the qualification procedure for the position of a management board member, the Supervisory Board determines the detailed rules and procedure for this procedure, the date and place of accepting applications, the date and place of the interview, the scope of issues to be covered by the interview, the requirements and the method of candidate assessment,” it added.

So when will we finally meet the new president of Orlen?

An example here is Enea, where the qualification procedure for the position of president was initiated on Monday (February 5). This occurred about a week after the company’s extraordinary general meeting (January 30), which replaced part of the company’s supervisory board.

Enea’s supervisory board accepts written applications until February 20 this year, and applications are to be opened on that day. Interviews with candidates are scheduled on February 21-23 this year.

The whole process may look similar in the case of the new president of Orlen. This would mean that we could meet the new president of the Płock concern at the turn of February and March.

Among the media candidates for the new president of Orlen, there was the name of former vice-president of Warsaw, Robert Soszyński, who in 2008-2012 was the president of PERN, a company managing national oil pipelines and fuel storage facilities. The media also mention Krzysztof Zamasz, former vice president of Tauron, Jacek Krawiec, former president of the company from 2008 to 2015, and Beata Stelmach, former deputy minister and former head of General Electric for Poland and the Baltic countries, as potential successors of Obajtek.

Moreover, the name of former Deputy Prime Minister and former Commissioner of the European Union, Elżbieta Bieńkowska, was previously mentioned in this context. Prime Minister Donald Tusk referred to Bieńkowska’s candidacy. Commenting on the issue of filling the positions of presidents of State Treasury companies, the head of government said that “he has not seen such incorrect forecasts for a long time.” When asked whether Elżbieta Bieńkowska was such an incorrect forecast (for the position of president of Orlen – editor’s note), he replied “completely”.
