Ryan Gosling sang “I’m Just Ken” live at the 96th Academy Awards. The performance was full of surprises. Ken’s castmates joined him on stage. Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash also appeared there. The performance received a standing ovation.
This year The Oscar gala brought many unexpected moments. Ryan Gosling’s performance was also full of them. Dressed almost from head to toe in pink, he sang the song “I’m Just Ken” from the movie “Barbie” in front of the crowd at the Dolby Theater. The actor started his performance from the audience. He then turned directly to Margot Robbie, who was sitting right in front of him, making her laugh. Then he directed his steps towards Mark Ronson (co-author of the music and lyrics of the song – ed.), who was already waiting on the stage. There, a moment later, Gosling was joined by other “Barbie” cast members – Simu Liu, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa and Kingsley Ben-Adir. After the stage was obscured by giant cardboard Barbie doll heads, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash suddenly appeared on the stage.

At the end of the performance, Gosling came down into the audience again. He then approached Barbie’s co-stars – Gerwig, Ferrera and Robbie – and asked them to sing a fragment of “I’m Just Ken” together. A moment later, he approached Emma Stone for the same purpose. The actor’s performance was rewarded with a standing ovation.

The song “I’m Just Ken” was nominated for an Oscar in the best song category. However, he did not win the statuette. This one went to Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell for “What Was I Made For”, also part of the soundtrack of Greta Gerwig’s hit production.
