The Confederation’s candidate for the Sejm, Natalia Jabłońska, assessed in social media that the ban on slaughtering dogs was introduced “unnecessarily” because “meat is meat”. Dobromir Sośnierz, MP of this party, was asked about her controversial statement. – I also believe that a dog is no better than a cow. It’s just our habit, he said.

A few days ago, the activist of the Confederation and the National Movement, Piotr Cezary Lisiecki, wrote on Facebook that “the slaughter of dogs and the ban on trade in their meat were introduced in the EEC (European Economic Community – ed.) in 1986”. Natalia Jabłońska, a lawyer and candidate of the Confederation to the Sejm in district No. 37 (Konin), commented on this entry with the words: “And unnecessarily. Meat is meat.”

MP of the Confederation: A dog is no better than a cow

Dobromir Sośnierz, currently a member of the Confederation and her candidate in the upcoming elections. – I also think that a dog is no better than a cow. It’s just our habit, he said. “I don’t think it should regulate our feelings towards animals,” he added. And he went on: – I don’t think they are willing either. Rather, there is no market for someone to want to eat dogs in Poland.

– I don’t see a moral difference between a dog and a cow, sorry. But this is my position – said Sośnierz. “There is no reason for such regulations to exist,” he added.

A member of the Civic Coalition, Arkadiusz Myrcha, posted a video on the X platform (formerly Twitter) with a fragment of Sośnierz’s statement.

Dog Trainer: Dogs feel pain just like humans

In the context of the controversial entry of the Confederation’s candidate to the Sejm, PAP talked to Sylwia Matulewska, a trainer, behaviorist and certified SATS trainer. – I was surprised to read Natalia Jabłońska’s statement on the ban on slaughter and trade in dog meat – she said.

She also reminded that in the past, Dobromir Sośnierz called animals “machines made of meat”. ‘MRI studies conducted at Emory University in Atlanta by Professor Gregory Berns and his team have proven what dog lovers have always known: dogs react emotionally to the smells, sounds and behavior of humans,’ she noted. She emphasized that they also have emotions corresponding to the emotions of a two-three-year-old child. “Dogs are not soulless meat,” she said.

“As for ‘machines made of meat’: no, animals are not machines, machines don’t feel pain,” she added. She said that pain is the result of irritating pain receptors, and dogs feel pain just like humans. – Their neurophysiological processes related to the perception of pain follow the same course. The only difference is that humans manifest pain and dogs, in general, try to hide it, she explained.

– It seems to me that it is time for a more scientific approach to animals, if empathy is not enough, than views from several centuries ago – added Matulewska.
