In the waters of the Sulu Sea off the Philippine island of Palawan, where the famous Tubbataha coral reef is located, a diving yacht will sink on Saturday, the Philippine Coast Guard said on Sunday morning. 28 people were rescued, four are missing.
The yacht M/Y Dream Keeper set sail from the port of San Remegio on the island of Cebu on Thursday at 16:00 local time. The vessel reached the famous Tubbataha reef on Saturday around 10 pm.
“At around 7 a.m., the PCG Command Center received information from the Palawan District Coast Guard that the vessel had sunk,” the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Sunday.
A patrol vessel was dispatched to the site to conduct a search and rescue operation.
By 10 a.m. on Sunday, 28 people had been rescued. Four people are still missing.
The local authorities and services have not yet announced what circumstances led to the sinking of the yacht.
