Pleszew. A glass crusher grabbed the hand of a 17-year-old girl

The teenager’s hand was caught between the drum and the casing of the glass crushing machine. Firefighters had to use hydraulic equipment to free her. The girl was hospitalized.

The accident happened on Tuesday in one of the companies in Gołuchów, Greater Poland. The 17-year-old was supposed to reach for a bottle lying under the conveyor belt while cleaning the glass crushing machine.

– At that time – as passed by senior asp. Monika Lis – Rybarczyk from the company in Pleszew – her right hand was pulled between the drum and the casing of this machine. The son of the owner of the company, who was present on the spot, heard the scream and turned off the power to the entire line. His father and the victim’s mother tried to remove her hand, but to no avail.

This was done only by firefighters with the help of hydraulic equipment. According to the press officer of the Pleszew fire brigade, Capt. MSc. Paweł Mimier, the girl was very lucky because after removing her hand from the machine she could move her fingers. She was transported to the hospital.

– He’s in the pediatric surgery ward. He is in good condition, said hospital spokesman Adam Stangret.

The police have launched an investigation into the matter

The materials will be handed over to the prosecutor’s office after all findings in the case have been made. Maciej Meler, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Ostrów Wielkopolski, said that the task of the police will be to question the victim and witnesses, collect the necessary evidence, inspect the scene and secure employee documentation.

– It will also be checked whether this person could work and whether he underwent training – he said. After reviewing the collected documentation, the prosecutor will decide whether it will be necessary to appoint an expert in the field of injuries and occupational health and safety.
