Nine dead dogs and one cat were found during an intervention in an animal shelter in Posadówek (Greater Poland Voivodeship). It happened after a teacher who had appeared there the day before with a school trip informed about the irregularities. All the animals have already been taken from there, and the prosecutor’s office is dealing with the case.

The animal shelter in Posadówek in the Lwówek commune (Wielkopolskie Voivodeship) was visited by a school trip on Tuesday. What they saw they will remember for a long time. “Empathy lesson turned into a huge trauma, children cried, teachers could not understand what they were looking at. The teacher informed us about the conditions in this hell,” wrote the Mondo Cane Foundation for the Protection of Animal Rights.

The police were informed about the case, and the next day the foundation dealing with animals and representatives of the Wielkopolski Inspectorate for Animal Protection entered the shelter.

Police: 10 dead animals seized

– We have been notified of a suspected animal abuse offence. On Wednesday, police officers carried out activities at the scene under the supervision of the prosecutor – says Sgt. pcs. Mariusz Majewski, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Nowy Tomyśl.

What they saw inside was beyond their worst imagination. “The bestiality of people towards animals has exceeded what we have seen so far” – wrote the Wielkopolska Inspectorate for Animal Protection. And he mentioned: “Corpses of animals, dogs extremely starved, degraded, with oozing wounds, frozen to the kennels.”

The two dying dogs that the students had seen the day before were dead. “One was dead in the pen, not even taken out, the other was already in the shelter’s freezer. Another 8 animals were in the refrigerator, all extremely starved” – reported the Mondo Cane Foundation.

– Nine dead dogs and one cat were secured on site – informs Mariusz Majewski from the Nowy Tomyśl police.

“The first corpse of the blue amstaff … – he had his whole life ahead of him … he passed away in terrible suffering, left in the kennel, but someone poured fresh food into her bowl … did they not notice that she would not eat it anymore? Another dead dog’s body in next shack… Freezer… 8 animals… Everyone emaciated, skinny, ribs on top – PICTURE OF INCREDIBLE DOG’S SUFFERING… Such views you want to forget! – describes WIOZ.

The whole shelter was supposed to be a mess, everywhere – also in the kennels and pens – there were supposed to be feces. “The method of cleaning in this place is a ‘hose’ and rinsing the excrement behind the playpen. The floor is wet, the dogs are wet. Dirty rags in the kennels are wet. There was not even straw there. And these wet, cold, trembling dogs” – reported WIOZ .

The prosecutor’s office is investigating the case

The dead animals were secured by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Nowy Tomyśl for autopsy. Live dogs were taken from the shelter managers. – 47 dogs were secured by foundations. We also secured items that could be evidence of a crime, said Mariusz Majewski from the Nowy Tomyśl police.

“We saved 47 lives….. How many have not survived this torture chamber run by human beasts?” – representatives of the Mondo Cane foundation ask. As he informs, animals from several communes were sent to the shelter in Posadówek. In 2021, the mortality rate at the shelter was 53 percent.

The shelter was managed by the Association of Integration of Local Communities “Wielkopomoc”. This is a group of homeless people who decided to take care of homeless animals. The hostel was located in a building belonging to the former state farm.

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Nowy Tomyśl is investigating the case. No one has been arrested so far. – Only today the police handed over the materials to the prosecutor’s office in this case. The prosecutor will familiarize himself with this case and if there is a probable crime, an investigation will be conducted in the direction of the Animal Protection Act, i.e. Article 35 on animal abuse, Łukasz Wawrzyniak, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Poznań, told TVN24 on Thursday.

Animal abuse is punishable by up to three years in prison. If found particularly cruel, the perpetrators would face five years in prison.
