“In connection with the suspicion of committing the crime of accepting a bribe Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Timur Vadimovich Ivanov was detained” – the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported on social media on Tuesday.

As reported by AFP, the president Russia's Vladimir Putin has been informed about detention.

It was noted that the detained person faces up to 15 years in prison.

Timur Ivanov was born in 1975 in Moscow. He has been deputy minister of defense since 2016. The head of the ministry is Sergei Shoigu.

The detainee was previously subject to sanctions from the European Union.

Ivanov he replied in the ministry for organizing military property management and medical support for the Russian military. He also supervised the purchase of goods for the state defense services.

The Anti-Corruption Foundation – an institution created by the deceased leader of the Russian opposition Alexei Navalny – placed Ivanov under investigation.

A 2022 report found that the deputy minister oversaw – and profited from – construction projects in Ukraine's Mariupol, which came under the control of Russian troops.

According to the investigation, the minister he divorced his wife to enable her to bypass EU sanctions.
