Silesian. Shock in the Mysłowice-Wesoła mine

One of the miners injured in the shock that occurred in the Mysłowice-Wesoła mine on Wednesday evening died – Polska Grupa Górnicza (PGG) announced overnight. Aleksandra Wysocka-Siembiga, spokeswoman for the coal producer, said that the deceased employee was 43 years old and had been working in the mine for 14 years. He was pronounced dead by a doctor who arrived at the scene.

According to first reports, two workers were injured in the accident, including a miner who was resuscitated. Later it turned out that several other employees were also complaining about various ailments. PGG informs that a total of nine employees were injured in the accident, including a miner who lost his life. The rest were taken to hospitals.

– Work in the danger zone has, of course, been suspended and the site has been secured. The detailed circumstances of the accident will be investigated, added the PGG spokeswoman. According to information from the dispatcher of the State Mining Authority, the shock had an energy of 3 x 10 to the sixth joule. This corresponds to a magnitude of 2.46. After the accident, the director of the District Mining Office in Katowice went to the site – said the dispatcher.

This was another similar accident that occurred in the Mysłowice-Wesoła mine in recent weeks. At the end of March, also as a result of the earthquake, four miners were injured there, including: bruises and fractures.

According to WUG data, approximately 1.5 thousand cases are recorded every year in the area of ​​operation of Polish hard coal mines. shocks classified as high-energy (magnitude above 1.7). The majority of tremors, even if felt on the surface, do not cause any negative effects. Tremors that cause damage to infrastructure underground or on the surface are known as rock bursts.
