Storms in Poland. Broken train windows, destroyed cars, damaged roofs

On Saturday We were accompanied by storms and strong wind gusts. They had their consequences.

The Katowice – Racibórz train with 105 passengers inside did not have time to stop before a tree fell on the overhead line during a storm. Koleje Śląskie reported that the front and side windows were broken. After a few hours, the train arrived at the nearest station.

The incident happened at approx. 15.15 on a forest, difficult to access section of the route. A network vehicle arrived on site and felled the tree.

“There were 105 passengers in the vehicle at the time, no one was injured (…) Thanks to maintaining the voltage, the train reached the Katowice Ligota station at a speed of 5 kilometers per hour, where the ordered replacement bus vehicles were waiting for the passengers,” Koleje Śląskie announced in a press release.

The entire operation lasted over three hours, and in the meantime, over the province. A strong storm was passing through Silesia.

Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Katowice until 20 recorded a total of 435 reports related to strong winds – the highest number in the district. Cieszyn (54), Bielsko and Bielsko-Biała (40), Katowice and the poviat. Gliwice (29) and Pszczyna (25).

In Ruda Śląska, strong winds damaged the stage set up in the market square, as a result of which concerts related to the city's Easter fair were canceled. In Gliwice, a parcel locker fell over on one of the streets.

As Junior Captain Master Hubert Ciepły, press spokesman for the Małopolska Provincial Commander of the State Fire Service, said in the evening, firefighters in the entire Małopolska Voivodeship received almost 400 reports of the effects of strong winds. They mainly concerned broken trees and branches lying on cars, roads and power lines. – Mostly in the Krakow district – added the spokesman in an interview with tvnmeteo.pl.

The most serious incident occurred in the Wieliczka poviat, in the town of Zabłocie. There, the roof of a single-family residential building was torn off.

In the town of Charsznica in Miechów County, a storm tore off the roof of a farm building.

In Krakow, at Reymonta Street, a tree fell on a passing car. At the beginning, there was information about the injured person, but it was denied by the spokesman of the State Fire Service Headquarters in Małopolska.

In Nowa Huta, in the Kazimierzowskie Housing Estate, strong winds knocked down a tree onto parked cars. No one was injured. There are services on site carrying out activities.

As we read on the Patrol998-Małopolska social media profile, firefighters are also removing broken trees in the Ugorek and Łagiewniki districts.

In the town of Okleśna in Chrzanów County, the fire brigade was called to a tree that had fallen on a farm building.

There was also strong wind in the Opole region. By 8 p.m., 30 atmospheric events were recorded in the region. These were mainly broken branches, fallen trees and damaged power lines. One of the reports concerned a damaged roof.

The most incidents were recorded in Brzeg County – 6 interventions. No injuries were reported.

On Saturday, storms appeared in Poland before 2 p.m. There was thunder from Opole, through Lower Silesia, the Łódź region and Masovia. There was also thunder in Silesia. There was a risk of hail in places. They expired before 7 p.m.

IMWM warns against dangerous phenomena. Alerts for strong winds, which may be accompanied by storms, are to remain in force until 8-9 p.m.

There are also warnings against frost and snowfall.
