The Swedish government announced on Monday that it had started work on a defense cooperation agreement with the United States. The agreement could enable the presence of American troops in Sweden. “The United States is Sweden’s most important partner in the field of security and defense,” said the country’s defense ministry.
Sweden and United States started negotiations to create deeper security ties in the form of a defense cooperation agreement, the Swedish government said in a statement on Monday.
The agreement will create a legal framework for the presence of U.S. forces in Sweden and will enable even closer bilateral cooperation than that which membership in FOR THIS the Swedish Ministry of Defence.

“The United States is Sweden’s most important partner in the field of security and defence, both in bilateral relations and within NATO,” the ministry said.
Problems with the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO
Sweden in May with Finland applied to join NATO in response to the Russian invasion of Ukrainebut the application is still waiting for approval by two members of the Alliance – Hungary and Turkey.
Sweden and Finland signed an agreement with Turkey at the end of June during the NATO summit in Madrid, committing, among other things, to to fight terrorism. The Turkish authorities are demanding the expulsion from Sweden of political refugees, mainly Kurds, whom they consider terrorists and political opponents accused of attempting a coup. At the end of September, Stockholm implemented another of Ankara’s demands and lifted the embargo on arms exports to Turkey.
