Former Prime Minister Andrej Babisz visited the premises in Pruhonice on the outskirts of Prague on Friday, where he lives with his wife Monika. He told journalists that the elections were a referendum on his person and expressed the hope that there would be a “huge” turnout.

At an impromptu press conference, when asked if he expected such a fierce campaign between the first and second rounds of voting, Pavel said yes. “I knew who I was dealing with and I thought it was going to be worse,” he said of Babish.

Pavel appealed for the highest possible participation in the elections and emphasized that the stakes were high. Speaking about the plans if he became president, he stressed that it would be crucial to prepare the NATO summit, which is to be held in July Lithuania.

On Friday, the country’s most important leaders also cast their votes in the presidential election. The outgoing president of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman he did not hide that he had voted for Babisz, and Prime Minister Petr Fiala admitted that he had chosen Pavel.
