The son of MP Magdalena Filiks is dead. Journalists, guests of the Press Lodge on TVN24 comment

– I’d like to start with tragedy that affected MP Magdalena Filiks – with these words, the “Press Lodge” program was opened by its hostess, Małgorzata Łaszcz.

– Her 16-year-old son, Mikołaj, is dead. At the moment, it is impossible to unequivocally judge the reasons for taking his own life. The investigation into the boy’s death is being conducted by the Szczecin prosecutor’s office. According to the head of the state commission on pedophiles, Błażej Kmieciak, at the turn of the year, the government media led to the identification of the MP’s son as a victim of a convicted pedophile who has been in prison for two years, said the journalist.

– Maybe I will not comment, I will just say what happened, because I learned about Mikołaj’s suicide earlier – said Paweł Wroński from “Gazeta Wyborcza”. – I did not have enough courage to call the MP, I just called a few other politicians of the Civic Platform. The sequence of events is as follows. Two years ago, cases of pedophile behavior were revealed, a trial took place, a pedophile who was a member of the Civic Platform and worked in the marshal’s office was convicted. The trial was held behind closed doors for the benefit of the victims.

As he added, “we journalists know that these kinds of things are not written about.” – The prosecutor’s office, the court and the police behaved absolutely fair in this case, there were no leaks. Suddenly, when MP Filiks got under the skin of the State Forests in the fall and winter of last year, a text suddenly appeared that the Civic Platform was hiding a pedophile. Rafał Trzaskowski was involved in this, data on the children of the MP from Szczecin were provided, which absolutely unmistakably identified, among others, Mikołaj. He was under the care of a psychiatrist and a psychologist, previously he was in a depressive state, there were various events. It ended as it ended, ”said the journalist.

He added that “we are dealing with a tragedy, this is the death of a very young man.” – I would not like to say that someone led to this personally, because it is too far said, but I think we are dealing with a similar mechanism. I see all sorts of right wing trolls starting to pop up online, [które piszą – przyp. red.] in terms of “well, basically nothing really happened.” For me, the case was absolutely tragic – said Wroński. – For a mother, this is something unbelievable. I think that what is happening is emboldened hoarding – assessed the columnist of “Election”.

– First of all, I would like to express my sympathy and condolences to the deputy, because for the mother and the whole family this is a terrible tragedy – said Beata Lubecka from Radio Zet. – I don’t think there is anything worse that you can experience in life than to outlive your own child and lose it in such a way – she pointed out.

In her opinion, “these are unacceptable things to use this type of methods that can hurt family members.” – I remember how many times MPs from Law and Justice said that in such situations, when we attack political opponents, to absolutely not touch the family, that this is immunity, taken out of the current political struggle. Here, the so-called national media, which are often a weapon, an armed arm, have gone far too far, which was pointed out by the chairman of the state commission that investigates cases of pedophilia. Someone should bear the consequences, she said.

Jacek Prusinowski from Radio Plus also referred to the matter. – It is a tragedy that information was provided that allowed to identify those children who were victims of a pedophile, which is probably not easy in the peer environment – ​​he said.

In his opinion, “we should not treat this case now as a political club to the other side and the media that revealed it.” – Which, of course, does not change the fact that this activity of Radio Szczecin, this information, revealing it, was obviously a scandal – he added. “But we don’t know what effect that had on the drama that happened.” I think it is better to say a few words less on this matter than too much. We are dealing with something so dramatic and delicate for the Member and her family. It seems to me that it would certainly not be a good thing to make a political weapon out of it now – he assessed.

– When government media employees revealed this case, (…) “non-journalists” did not know how to behave. They defended this disclosure – said Mariusz Janicki from the “Polityka” weekly. – When it was said that this was a case from a year ago, resolved, that there was a request, that the court session was closed, they said that it does not matter that freedom of speech is the most important thing, that the nature of this pedophile’s activities requires disclosure, including his political affiliation, let’s not hide it, he said. He noted that “today some of those old tweets defending this disclosure have been deleted.” – Of course, nothing is lost on the web, there are screenshots – he added.

– Today there are still people who defend that disclosure, I will not mention names, because they are not even worth mentioning – said Janicki. – I wonder where it comes from. I think it comes from the fact that in Poland there is no public opinion as a collective social conscience. There are several bubbles, several separate consciences, and some of the people who defend that disclosure of this abuse today believe that they are doing nothing wrong in their bubble. On the contrary, sticking to this old view, a certain brutality they show, will meet with a good response – said the columnist of “Polityka”.

In his opinion, “this shows what happened to Polish public opinion, what happened to moral depravity.” – Sometimes you have to separate the political issues. Politics no longer applies here. There is simply either decency or pure meanness here. Sometimes we have to reach for such simple, elementary values ​​and hierarchies – added the guest of the “Loża Pras” program.
