The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the head of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola met on Saturday in Lviv. In a social media post, the Ukrainian leader thanked the president of the European Parliament for support for Ukraine and important decisions adopted in the EP.
Volodymyr Zelensky posted on his Telegram account a recording of conversations with the head of the European Parliament. “Thank you for your leadership in support of Ukraine from the first days of this terrible war and for the important decisions adopted by European parliament” – he wrote.
He stressed that on March 1, 2022, shortly after Ukraine applied for membership in the European Union, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on this matter. It contained an appeal to EU institutions to take action to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate to the European Union.
President Zelensky stressed that his country wants to start membership negotiations with the EU later this year.
“I’ve learned a lot from Ukraine over the past year. But perhaps the most valuable lesson is the one expressed by Taras Shevchenko: ‘Keep fighting, you will surely win,'” Metsola wrote on Twitter.
