Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelensky on the problems: We have almost no artillery

On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's interview with a CBS reporter was broadcast. When asked about the situation on the front, he said: Ukraine managed to stabilize the situation and it is better than in previous months, when the army was struggling with a large weapons deficit.

– It was very difficult to fight the enemy in Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Lysychansk, Soledar and so on – said the Ukrainian leader. – We have stabilized the situation. It's better than two or three months agowhen we had a large deficit of artillery ammunition and various types of weapons. But we haven't seen this big, huge Russian counteroffensive at all. They were not successful, he said during the interview.

Despite the improvement of the situation, the president warned that Ukrainian troops will not be able to hold out for long, if they do not gain US support. He added that help is needed as soon as possible – especially since the army expects a large Russian offensive at the turn of May and June.

– Before that, we must not only prepare, not only stabilize the situation, because our partners are sometimes happy that we have stabilized the situation. But I say that we need help now – Zelensky said. – We have almost no artillery anymore – he added and emphasized that what is most needed are air defense missiles and artillery ammunition.

Volodymyr Zelensky noted that Russia is “100 percent” taking advantage of the break in arms supplies from the US, resulting from the months-long deadlock in Congress regarding the aid package for Ukraine. The conflict in the Gaza Strip was also said to have worsened the country's situation.

– We understand that this is a humanitarian disaster. Of course, it diverts attention from Ukraine in the information field. It's a fact, and when your region loses attention to other regions (…), it's obvious that this is good for Russia – he said.

According to Zelensky, Vladimir Putin takes advantage of every distraction and he tries to play to his own advantage with every event. He said it wasn't a surprise to him when the Russian leader pointed to Ukraineclaiming that she was responsible attack at Corcus City Hall. Putin did this despite ISIS admitting guilt and the US assurances that Ukraine was not responsible for the attack.

Zelensky rejected Putin's insinuations, describing them as “funny“. – He doesn't care whether it is a terrorist act, an economic act, the oil industry or any of these spheres – commented the president of Ukraine.

– Even what took place near Moscow, with so many victims and wounded, he uses it all for one purpose onlywhich is the justification that Ukraine should not exist, he said.

When asked if he stands by his earlier opinion that without US support, Ukraine will lose the war, Zelensky replied in the affirmative. He added that in the event of Ukraine's defeat, there would be war “can come to Europe and the United States” at a very fast pace.

– Right now it's us, then Kazakhstan, then the Baltic countries, then Poland, then Germany, at least half of Germany – said Zelensky, quoted by Ukrinform. – Even tomorrow, missiles will be able to reach any country – he said. The President of Ukraine mentioned that Vladimir Putin will never forgive the West leading to the collapse of the Soviet Union. According to him, Putin wants to restore the former USSR to its “imperial glory and geographical borders.”

– We don't have to try to change his mind. We need to replace it. We have to replace him, he emphasized.

He declared that Russia's invasion of his country was a war “against democracy and the values ​​of the whole world.” Volodymyr Zelensky said that in the West “there may be those who are tired of hearing this message”, but emphasized that “Only those who are not at war are tired“who don't know what war is and who have never lost their children.”
