Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants a meeting at the border. Andrzej Duda “is in favor of conducting this dialogue”

Volodymyr Zelensky he turned to the Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Polish ministers, as well as a representative of the European Commission regarding the meeting on the Polish-Ukrainian border. President Ukraine asked the president Andrzej Duda for “support of this dialogue”. The Ukrainian side would be attended by, among others, the Prime Minister and all ministers. Zelensky himself also expressed his willingness to participate in this meeting, which would take place “until February 24.”

– The president is in favor of conducting this dialogue (talks with farmers and the Ukrainian side – editor’s note). This is the only way to solve this great problem. The problem is two-sided and very powerful. (…) Our farmers are fighting for their existence. The Ukrainian nation is fighting for its existence. The situation is disastrous on both sides, looking from this point of view, because the determination on both sides is enormous, and this problem simply needs to be solved, said presidential minister Andrzej Dera.

– There is no other way than talks, dialogue and solutions related to the European Union. Let me remind you that farmers across Europe are today protesting against what is happening to agriculture in the European Union – he added.

Dera said that Duda “supports” the meeting of the two governments. – Mr. President is doing everything in this spirit to support and help Ukraine. Let’s not forget that everything that is happening at the moment on the border – this conflict with grain, with agricultural products, is the result of the war – said the guest of “Kropka nad i”.

When asked whether he thought Andrzej Duda could be the “patron” of this meeting, Dera emphasized that it was not about who would patronize it. – What is needed now is a meeting of our Polish government, led by Donald Tusk, with the government of Ukraine and, most importantly, with EU representatives – he said.

When asked about the idea of ​​representatives of the Polish and Ukrainian governments meeting at the border, he said that “it is not the safest.” – It’s better to talk in Warsaw or somewhere in Rzeszów or Lublin, and not necessarily near the border. Of course, these won’t be long deliberations, because they can’t take place there. It’s about a symbol, he said. – The idea is to clear the border – added Dera.

– Right now, there is a need for a meeting of our Polish government, chaired by Donald Tusk, with the government of Ukraine and with representatives of the EU, because everything that is happening is related to EU policy. (…) This whole conflict results from the fact that the standards for agricultural production are different in Ukraine and completely different in the European Union. That’s why the price of these products is different in Ukraine, and that’s why Polish farmers are fighting for their survival and existence today – noted the minister.

The minister in the Chancellery of the President also commented on the words Donald Trump. Ex-president USA and likely rival Joe Biden in November elections presidential said that would “encourage” Russia to “do whatever it likes” With NATO countriesthat “don’t pay”, i.e. spend less than 2 percent of GDP on defense. “I wouldn’t defend such a country,” Trump declared.

Dera assessed that this statement was intended to be an impulse for countries that do not fulfill their obligations. According to him, these are “radical words”. – I admit that these are radical words, but they show that not everyone treats the threat posed by Russia equally. Poland takes this very seriously. Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia also, i.e. border countries, because they know what Russia is threatening, Dera said.

– However, some countries are still lukewarm on it and that’s why I think Trump said it this way – he added.

The “Dot the i” guest also answered questions about what the president can do with the proposed changes to the abortion law. – The Polish constitution that is in force today clearly states that it stands for the protection of life. This is the shortest answer. If we want to follow the constitution, this constitution does not allow the killing of children at will. This is the shortest answer that can be given to this law, commented Dera.

– We have the constitution we have and the president respects this constitution – he added.

Under current regulations, abortion is legal in two cases: pregnancy resulting from rape and when the woman’s life or health is at risk. The third condition for the legality of abortion – when prenatal tests indicated a high probability of serious and irreversible damage to the fetus – was found unconstitutional by Constitutional Court in October 2020.

Last November, at the very beginning of the new term, two projects from the Left regarding the liberalization of abortion regulations were submitted to the Sejm. One of them partially decriminalizes abortion and assistance in it, the other allows termination of pregnancy until the end of the 12th week of its duration. The Civic Coalition also submitted its project on this matterand Third Way proposes a referendum.
