The American military battalion stationed in Lithuania will remain in the country for an indefinite period of time, and not only until 2025, as previously planned, said the head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, Laurynas Kascziunas, who is visiting the US on Thursday.

Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurynas Kascziunas, who is visiting the US, announced on Thursday that the US military battalion stationed in Lithuania will remain in the country for an indefinite period, and not only until 2025, as previously planned.

– We are grateful for the determination of the United States to maintain its military presence in the Baltic countries – said Kascziunas, who was quoted in the ministry's statement. The minister assured that Lithuania will make “every effort to provide arriving American troops with all necessary support from the host country and appropriate infrastructure, in accordance with NATO standards.”

The issue of the presence of US soldiers in Lithuania was discussed, among others, during the meeting of the Lithuanian minister with the American deputy head of the Department of Defense for land forces, Christine Wormuth. Since 2019, U.S. armed forces battalions have been continuously serving in Lithuania on a rotational basis.
