Volodymyr Zelensky visits Poland. Ryszard Schnepf and Jerzy Marek Nowakowski comment

Marcin Przydacz, the head of the presidential Office of International Policy, said that “the talks will cover the entire spectrum of Polish-Ukrainian relations.” He announced that the presidents’ joint speech, which will be public, will take place at 6 p.m. at the Royal Castle.

Former Polish ambassador to Washington, Ryszard Schnepf, said that “we should all be happy and that is satisfaction for Poles.” – Certainly, President Zelensky will come here to say words of gratitude to thousands of Poles who helped, I think, more to the Polish society than to the authorities – he added.

As he said, topics related to the future are also important. – This is a matter of reconstruction (Ukraine-ed.), grain that is so loud today – he pointed out.

– One thing worries me – and in the case of (Joe) Biden and in the case of Zelensky, these are visits where the world’s leading personalities come to tell us: thank you. Well, I would like the world’s leading personalities to come on business – said Jerzy Marek Nowakowski from the Euro-Atlantic Association, former ambassador to Latvia and in Armenia.

Referring to the reconstruction of Ukraine, he said that “we will go with our hands outstretched to let us in this reconstruction, because right now – let’s be honest – talk about reconstruction, this is a conversation with Germanywith the French, with the Italians, less with the Americans, who mainly focus on armaments.”

– We have a very small offer in fact, because we do not have capital. We can be a subcontractor of this reconstruction – he added.

The former ambassador said that another issue is also important. – Why did Zelensky go to Washington, then to London, then to Paris? Because there he could get something. We really behaved extremely well, we gave what we could at the beginning, and at the moment we don’t really have anything to offer apart from the old MiGs – he said.

– Therefore, a visit to us is a symbolic visit in a slightly different way. The fact that this is an official visit is what Zelensky shows: Ukraine feels safe, we can afford a normal, full-scale official visit, but we are still serving as a symbol, not as a real partner, he assessed.

Nowakowski also said that Zelensky “knows perfectly well that the columns of support for the Ukrainian cause have started to fall.” – This is to a large extent an attempt at such a message, in short, an attempt to hit the table with your fist, so that Ukraine from the third pages of newspapers will return to the front again, and that citizens of democratic countries will simply support the Ukrainian cause, get involved, because without this Ukraine cannot count a lot of effort, he said.
