Warsaw. The MP asked about the costs of protecting Kaczyński’s villa by the police. The deputy minister claims that there are none

Hanna Gill-Piątek, a non-associated MP, wanted to find out what the costs of police protection not only of Kaczyński’s house, but also of places where the president often visited. She mentioned the headquarters of PiS at Nowogrodzka Street, and the Monument to the Victims of the Smolensk Catastrophe at Piłsudski Square. In the parliamentary interpellation, she indicated that it was about the period from 2018. In an interview with “Gazeta Stołeczna” she assessed that “the public should know these costs”. She also reminded that the rulers recently said that there were no policemen to prosecute perpetrators of domestic violence ex officio.

Deputy Minister of Interior and Administration Maciej Wąsik replied to the MP. He wrote that “based on the position of the Police Headquarters, I kindly inform you that the Police did not carry out tasks related to the protection of the indicated person, as well as the objects mentioned in the speech”. “Nevertheless, in accordance with Article 1(2) of the Act of April 6, 1990 about The basic tasks of this formation include, among others, the protection of public safety and order, including ensuring peace in public places, he added.

Gill-Piątek assessed in “Stołeczna” that the minister’s answer was a “blatant lie”. She pointed out that everyone sees the police in front of Kaczyński’s house or in front of the PiS headquarters. In her opinion, Wąsik’s words “deny the facts” and this is a “curiosity” in the face of staff shortages in the police. She also intends to prepare another question on this matter.

In April 2021, tvn24.pl and TVN24 reporters watched police work in the vicinity of the PiS president’s house in Warsaw’s Żoliborz district for over a month. As they described at the time, in addition to security, every day you can meet uniformed policemen and undercover agents in unmarked police cars.

After earlier – in 2020 – reporters established that policemen are constantly used to protect the house of the president of the ruling partythe uniformed officers disappeared but were replaced by non-uniformed ones.

The result of the reporters’ findings: in total, up to 40 policemen are on duty in the immediate vicinity of the deputy prime minister’s property every day. As their interlocutors assured, it was “protection 24 hours a day”.

Further findings: Jarosław Kaczyński’s security is the responsibility of the GROM Group security company, whose services are paid by Law and Justice. The financial report of this party shows that in 2019 the company valued its services at over PLN 1.8 million. According to the “Polityka” weekly, the cost of security in 2020 amounted to PLN 1.65 million.

Since the leader of PiS took the position of deputy prime minister, he should be guarded by the State Protection Service, i.e. a formation that, by law, protects the president, the marshals of both chambers of parliament, the prime minister and his deputies. The SOP conducts security analyzes of these politicians and analyzes the threats they receive. Our reporters have established that Jarosław Kaczyński is not covered by the so-called physical protection of the SOP, i.e. it does not benefit from the protection of officers of this service.
