The decision on the construction of the Central Communication Port should be made in the coming weeks – said Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, in “Fakty po Faktach”.

Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, was the guest of “Fakty po Faktach”. She was asked when the decision on the construction of the Central Communication Port would be made. – I think it's only a matter of weeks before a decision has to be made, because such hesitation back and forth is not good for the project and is not good for public understanding of where we are heading with an investment project that is very important for people, because it is important for people, it is obvious and people need to receive a decision – she replied.

She added that “there is a big question about the airport, whether we need a large airport and it is also a cargo airport, or do we rather need regional airports.” However, she assessed that “the decision must be made quickly.”

Talking about the investment costs, she said that “we don't know exactly what they are, because her predecessors spoke quite loosely about the costs.” She added that CPK is “first of all, it is a huge airport, and secondly, there is less talk about it, and it is super important, it is the entire network of high-speed railways.”

– The largest costs are invested in high-speed railway connections, which are simply intended to connect Poland, and it seems to me that this is not a controversial part at all – she said.

Government plenipotentiary: we are not talking about whether to build, but how to build

On Tuesday, the government's plenipotentiary for the CPK, Maciej Lasek, said during the European Economic Congress in Katowice that the deadline for putting the CPK into operation in 2028 is not realistic, and according to his information, the airport could probably be commissioned in the second half of 2032. According to him in 2025, the capacity of Chopin Airport ends.

Lasek emphasized on Tuesday that today we are no longer talking about whether to build the CPK, but about how to build it.

The Central Communication Port is a planned transfer hub between Warsaw and Łódź, which is to integrate air, rail and road transport. As part of this project, 37 km west of Warsaw, in an area of approx. 3 thousand hectares, an airport is to be built. The CPK will also include railway investments: a junction at the airport and connections throughout the country, which will enable travel between Warsaw and the largest Polish cities in no longer than 2.5 hours. CPK is 100 percent owned by the State Treasury.
